Finding a Fresh Start at Rancho Mission Viejo
Rancho Mission Viejo, CA (June 10, 2026) – After years living in a large home in Dove Canyon, Jean and Jim Salzar were ready for a new chapter, smaller home, and making the most of retirement together. Earlier this year, the couple moved into Luna, a neighborhood from Del Webb in the new Village of Gavilán Ridge, exclusively for residents 55+. The couple found the single-level living home and scenic surroundings they had been searching for.
“We were specifically looking for a single-level living home in a dedicated 55+ community, and Luna really checked all the boxes for us,” said Jim. “We also loved being on the ridge with views of the hillsides. The natural surroundings was one of the biggest incentives for moving here.”
The couple purchased one of the first homes in the neighborhood, officially moving in at the end of April. Downsizing from a 3,700-square-foot home was a major transition, but one they embraced as part of entering a new season of life.
“We really wanted to start fresh,” said Jim. “Now we’re enjoying building new memories in a home that fits this new stage of life.”
Since moving in, the couple has been busy personalizing their home, completing landscaping projects, and settling into The Ranch community. They say the support throughout the process from the Rancho Mission Viejo and Del Webb teams has made a lasting impression.
“Everyone we’ve met has been so friendly. We’ve heard wonderful things about the trails, resident activities, clubs, and events happening throughout the community, and we’re excited to experience more of it ourselves,” said Jean.
Although Gavilán Ridge is still growing, Jean and Jim have already started building connections with fellow residents and exploring the community with their dog.
The couple is especially looking forward to the upcoming opening of The Club at Gavilán Ridge, an exclusive 55+ amenity that will feature clubhouse, pickleball and bocce courts, bar lounge, BBQ patio, terrace, art and yoga studio, lap pool, and a modern fitness center.
“We’re both excited to take advantage of the amenities and the opportunities to connect with our neighbors,” said Jim. “My wife loves spending time at the pool, and we’re looking forward to being more active and social here.”
One of the unexpected joys of moving to The Ranch has been reconnecting with nature and the peaceful surroundings.
“It may sound simple, but hearing birds outside again really made me feel at home,” said Jean. “There’s such a beautiful breeze here, and the sunsets and sunrises are incredible.”
With children living in Northern California and Oregon, the couple is excited for family members to visit and experience the community for themselves.
Living on The Ranch, especially as Gavilán 55+ residents, means an opportunity to slow down, enjoy retirement, and embrace a lifestyle centered around nature and new beginnings.
“This is a new beginning for us,” Jean shared. “We’re excited for what’s ahead, and we’re really happy to be here.”
