Gavilán® 55+ Lifestyle Frequently Asked Questions

Gavilán residents have access to ALL amenities, so they can accompany their grandkids under age 18 to any of the all-age pools and other amenities!

Rancho Mission Viejo is a short drive away and approximately six miles from the beach.

The weather is temperate and sunny, the typical Southern Orange County weather that people love.

Blue Hummingbird Coffee is located at The Canyon House in Rancho Mission Viejo. Sendero Marketplace offers many favorite eateries and places to shop including Gelson’s Market, In N Out Burger, Bagel Bistro, Yogurtland, Jersey Mike’s, Scarlet Kitchen & Lounge, and Morena’s Mexican Cuisine. Frisby Cellars & Oak Ranch Grill are in Esencia at Los Patrones Business Park. Ladera Ranch is just a short drive on Antonio Parkway. There are also charming restaurants and shops in nearby cities San Juan Capistrano, Dana Point and San Clemente.

Although the 6,500 acres of The Ranch that are currently preserved as permanent open space are not publicly accessible, there are numerous trails and multi-use pathways available for use. Discover the various community park and trail offerings here. There are also plenty of public, docent-led hikes, lectures, and volunteer opportunities on The Nature Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo.

The nearest fire department is the Rancho Mission Viejo Fire Station (station #56) located at Antonio Parkway/Sendero Way, approximately two miles from Rienda. A temp site in Rienda, Station 67, is now located on Cow Camp Road.

The closest hospital is Providence Mission Hospital, located in the city of Mission Viejo. There are two wellness/preventative health care centers in and near the Sendero Marketplace (Memorial Care and Mission Hospital Wellness Corner), and there is a site for a future Mission Health Center in the Village of Esencia.

RanchRide is a free shuttle program available to residents for transportation to RanchLife events, in addition to seasonal destinations and local attractions, including the cities of San Juan Capistrano and Dana Point Harbor. RanchRide services change in response to community needs and are generally free of charge but may include a user fee in the future. Please visit www.RanchRide.net for current shuttle schedules and pick up/drop off locations. Public bus transportation is available through OCTA, and the Amtrak and Metrolink train station is conveniently located in downtown San Juan Capistrano.
